I was working as a bagger in a supermarket and the cashier and I became close. I’ll call her Rosa. We would take breaks together and talk a great deal. She was recently divorced and had two cute kids. I could tell she was lonely and that she had taken an interest in me. One day, after bagging a particularly big order, my shoulder started hurting. This wasn’t the first time, but it was really painful and I kept rubbing it. She, a very compassionate woman, came over with real concern in her voice and said, “You should get that checked. You are too young to be having that much pain in your shoulder.”
